Postponed Freeride Weekend

Due to lack of snow the freeride weekend is going to be postponed until the 15th and 16th of sept. Thats the first weekend of the fourth term. Hopefully there be a hell of a lot more snow between now and then. Fire and ice weekend should be still be on the 18th of august.

I belive I can fly!

As sure as R-Kelly wants to piss on you, New Zealand will have bad seasons. But don’t cry for us Argentina, It can all change at the drop of a hat. While the snow is hard and thin everywhere that doesn’t have some snow guns, one day a storm will come and it will be ON! (the author takes no responsibility as to when said storm will come).

I don’t know about anyone else but I’m getting pissed off with certain people saying “It’s early”, or “its not halfway through the season yet”.  I mean I already had 12 days up the hill last year at this time, this year I’ve had only 3 (1/2 of one of those i was crying about my back after landing on some “Packed Powder” up porters… read: ICE ). Also I got a new board this year which is sitting in the garage still in the plastic WAAAAA!!!! But its not all bad. If your rich then head to Otago or up north. They are having good seasons… Bastards

Well thats the  end of my rant! It looks like the freeride comp will be moved back to September because we don’t want people hucking onto rocks and hard pack. Official dates will be out on the club e-mails and up on here soon. Maybe we should have a rail comp here in chch? Keep cool team!

Peace out

Semester 2…

I’m Rick James BI#CH!

Well now we are all back at uni and the snows just getting good! (suck). Ahh well theres plenty of sliding to be done from now on.

We will be having a stall at CLUBS DAY WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY this week. So if your thinking about joining up to the wonderful snowsports club then this would be a ideal opportunity. If you wish to know more about the club then see the ‘about us‘ page.  We are a ski/boarding club but are pready social too so if you like snow or drinking or both then we are defiantly the club for you! To check the action have a look at the photos page. Shortly we will have free stickers, and (not so free) t-shirt’s and trucker caps up for grabs so if your keen to hit the strip in some fresh SSC gears then keep in touch!

Also coming up is the FREERIDE weekend. We will be running a big mountain freeride comp on the 4&5 of August up at Temple Basin. So if you think you have some skills enter on clubs day or e-mail the club. It will be a sick weekend and there will be a kick ass party on the Saturday night with a band and DJ, so even if you don’t want to enter then you should come up watch the action, do some turns and have a beer with the club.

Also coming up

  • Bus trip
  • Fire and Ice Weekend (drunken fireworks on a ski field), with half price lift tickets!!

So stay tuned for more ski-boarding ACTION.

Where to ride?!

Well if you have a chill pass, like me and most of the members of the club then your in a bit of a sticky situation. 4 Mountains are available for our pleasure this weekend.

OPTIONS

#1 Porters

If your new to this whole ‘ski/boarding’ thing porters looks like the place to be. Magic carpets whisk you to the top of the easy learners slope so you can fall over. Also when your cold and sore then you can hit up the nice new cafe. Anyone who is a bit more adventurous will be disappointed as only T1 is open…. still could be some fun on the wee jumps and stuff.

#2 Fox Peak

Fox looks like it has some real nice snow at the moment with a close to 50cm base. Could be some good riding up there. Although the nutcrackers are notoriously ‘interesting’, it has a wicked vertical drop if they are all going. Good option!

#3 Roundhill

It is a round hill

#4 Mt Lyford or Hamner Springs

These got a foot of snow on Thursday morning so they will be fully open. It appears that they haven’t opened the top tow at Lyford so there could be some freshies tomorrow (SICK). Defiantly a good option. We will be up at MT Lyford both days so come say hi if your in the club. If anyones driving up and has space in their car remember to put it up on the forums so you can share the love. Remember we are all brothers and sisters just from different mothers!

Well now you know your options tune those sticks (or stick) and get ready for a jib-tastic pow-slash massacre!!!

Ski-Boarding has begun!

Well the season is now underway! Most of the commercial fields are up and running with some good/ok on piste action. The clubies and chill fields are open or opening in the next couple of weeks with thin bases but lots of fun to be had.

As far as SSC goes we are all pumped up for clubs day and the free ride weekend coming up. If you think you have some Freeride skills (to pay the bills?) make sure you make it up. We have some fan-fucken-tastic prizes and a wicked party planned so SIGN UP on clubs day! Remember even if you don’t enter come up for the weekend and have a beer and get shown some lines that will blow your brain. It will be a great weekend to try some Temple riding out with some seasoned veterans that know the place. We hopefully will have some T-Shirts available on clubs day too!

All the work up Temple seems to be done (unless something goes terribly wrong). But there is always work to be done during the season so if your handy with carpentry, painting, using the good lift, laboring, being a mum, or anything else I’m sure the club could find you something to do with exchange for some free skiing/riding.

Some of the SSC committee made it up to Mt Lyford on Sunday and did a bit of slizzing. There was about 20 – 30 cm of fresh on a minimal base so getting intimate with rocks was common. Thank god for rock boards!

The girls where cranking a few drops. Rooney was winding up some half cabs that kept rotating after he landed. I was lucky enough to catch a edge before a rock gap causing my neck to feel funny. Theres nothing like flying through the air backwards when its not on purpose. Its better than being upside down I guess.
Lyford cut up quick, so after lunch a 30 min hike blew the cobwebs out and gained us some sick views and a nice (yet rocky) powder run. Photos to come. All and all super fun day and plenty more of them to come!

Thanks to all the crew that made it up to temple in the weekend. We got the tows all sorted and temple is now ready for a bitchin’ season! The rain was falling and the snow was thin but everyone got their hands dirty and cranked!

The next lot of thanks has to go to the metservice! Metservice if you where a woman I’d be in love.
