Learners’ Weekend

How depressing is it sitting on the top floor of the library looking at the snow covered mountains knowing it will be at least two weeks before your exams are finished and you can get up there and shred? I hope everyone is as amped as we are for the up coming ski season at Temple Basin. Speaking of Temple Basin the ski field is due to open on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of July (the middle weekend of the holidays).

On the 10th and 11th of July (the weekend before lectures start) CUSSC is having a learners weekend Temple Basin as well as this Ellen Worthington is turning 19 so we have decided to turn it into one massive party AT ALTITUDE!!! Check it out on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=122484274443353&ref=ts.

The weekend will start at the UCSA car park at 7.00AM with people carpooling up to the mountain (we are looking into getting a bus if there are not enough cars) then after a short hike up the mountain you are free to ski or snowboard all day, there will be some experienced committee members helping learners with the basics and how to use nut crackers. If you are not into skiing or snowboarding there is always drinking to be done.

For those of you that are new to the snow Temple Basin has a full range of hire skis and snowboards and boots (prices shown below) or you can hire gear from Gnomes on the way to Temple Basin where all CUSSC members get 15% off (http://www.gnomes.co.nz/).

After skiing or boarding all day we will have some dinner followed with the festivities associated with all big weekends at Temple Basin with the possibility of night skiing. For those of you who haven’t experienced a big weekend at Temple Basin it is something not to be missed with our sound system that can pump sounds across the whole ski field pumping on the dance floor, people getting up to all sorts of hilarious antics, a cheeky odd funnel or two and multiple drinking games.

We will also open our canteen so if you run out of beers we have you covered, or if you get the munchies and need a powerade in the morning our canteen manager will only be too happy to help.

Then its out for another day of shredding the slopes. After packing up and driving home we will be back in Christchurch on Sunday evening.

If you’re unsure what you need to bring, check out our gear page.

AGM AGM AGM AGM!

Hi!

Well that was a epic initation weekend! Surely some of you will be sharing my two day hangover after Saturday night. I must give some shout outs for the Excellent work done by our team up there. The painting was awesome! The lodge had been promised that second coat for the last 5 years, so it was good to finally get it done Iĺl put some photos up tonight once I collect a few.

Tonight we have the AGM at the clubs room in the UCSA at 7pm. If you find your way into the UCSA building and go up stairs towards the common room etc. we will have put some signs up. I think theres going to be a slide show of the initiation lunacy, followed by some boring reports. Then we will vote on the new committee and give out some AWESOME prizes of…

    1. A season pass!!!!!! value $300
    2. 2 x Fully paid weekends up temple value $110 each
    3. Some other lesser prizes for the beer Olympic champs. But much more glory!

Then we will goto the pub.

Well i looking forward to seeing you all tonight. Thanks again for turning up for intiation weekend!

    Welcome Clubbers!!! Initiation Weekend

Hey dudes welcome to the hippest most bangin club on campus. Thats right you have just made the best decision of your life, except for maybe learning to ski/board. Thanks to all those that signed up on clubs day and for those still thinking about it you can e-mail our beloved president brad to sign up.

To get the ball rolling this year we have initiation weekend on the 15th and 16th of March. Basically we will cruise up to temple lodge, have a bit of a walk, see some keas, and drink some beers. Theres a free keg!!! So be sure to lock that weekend in your student diary. We will also be re-instating the Beer Olympics so you may become the first BO champion for years. Basically theres a course to run and some beers to drink.

To get the most out of any club you need to come to the events. They are awesome and a fantasmic way to meet the club members, people who love to ski/board just like you and the old crusty committee crew. So make sure you make it up for initiation where the drink is free and the club is at its finest.

So cheers for joining and there will be a e-mail in your inbox soon telling you more about our first weekend up TB!

    Hi there

Well most of us have put our gear away for the season (there was tears in my eyes as I took the roof racks off the subbie). Its probably been the worst season I have seen since ever. At lest in 2005 there was good snow over at temple while the other clubbies where bare. I’ll give a dozen beers (TAZ) to the person who posts the best story of the season on the forums. It can be sad, extreme, or happy. I know some of us could write about the cracks on the slope we where just ridding on at broken (DODGE)

The bus trip went well and thanks for everyone who came. I made it to 3 pubs (apparently) before it was decided I was too pist (which i was). But it was some awesome fun!!!

Hope this year hasn’t soured your view of the club. Usually we are awesome, but this year mother nature made us rubbish. We can’t help shitty snow years, but remember those work tickets are good for a couple of years so save em for next year.

Broken is still open and got a monster 75cm last week, so for the ubber keen its still on.

    I belive I can fly!

As sure as R-Kelly wants to piss on you, New Zealand will have bad seasons. But don’t cry for us Argentina, It can all change at the drop of a hat. While the snow is hard and thin everywhere that doesn’t have some snow guns, one day a storm will come and it will be ON! (the author takes no responsibility as to when said storm will come).

I don’t know about anyone else but I’m getting pissed off with certain people saying “It’s early”, or “its not halfway through the season yet”.  I mean I already had 12 days up the hill last year at this time, this year I’ve had only 3 (1/2 of one of those i was crying about my back after landing on some “Packed Powder” up porters… read: ICE ). Also I got a new board this year which is sitting in the garage still in the plastic WAAAAA!!!! But its not all bad. If your rich then head to Otago or up north. They are having good seasons… Bastards

Well thats the  end of my rant! It looks like the freeride comp will be moved back to September because we don’t want people hucking onto rocks and hard pack. Official dates will be out on the club e-mails and up on here soon. Maybe we should have a rail comp here in chch? Keep cool team!

    Peace out
